Plan with Me: February 19 – 25th

February Planning

I decided to post another Plan with Me video, my last one for February. I’m not generally a pink person but I really enjoyed the Valentine’s love theme I used throughout February. This week I relied more on the stereotypical colours, like red and pink, but accented with black. I also chose to use stickers again. The file I used is Hogs and Kisses from Lettering Delights and I used the print and cut feature on my Cameo 3 to cut the stickers.

Process:

I stuck with a February theme again this month, opting for pink, red, and black. When deciding on which colour to use for my layouts I take my cues from the stickers. In this case, the stickers were mostly pink with red accents so I just flipped that. I used pink as my accent colour – in my border and dates – then red as my main colour. This helps to create balance and uniformity to the spread. I did play with the colour scheme in the original file I downloaded, but very basic. I just switched the colours for “struck” and “Cu-Pig” to help with balancing my spread.

The other trick I use is to colour swatch right on the sticker paper. That way you can compare your marker with the printed colour right away. I don’t have the greatest printer so I like have lots of marker colours to choose from – namely my set of 100 Crayola Supertips.

The other element I like to use in my layouts is stamping. I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the greatest stamper. I’m too impatient and lazy. So when stamping, I always make sure I have a variety of different sized pens to choose from, as well as my white Uni-ball gel pen. I will be posting more stamping tips and tricks next week and show you a before and after comparison.

The last trick I wanted to share was how I try to silence my inner perfectionist. When I feel I’ve finished the layout, I will close the journal (as long as everything is dry), and walk away. 9 times out of 10 I’ll come back and be happier with it than I was when I first finished it. The more I do this, the more I like it. There are definitely elements of this layout that bother me but I try and move past it and do better next time

So, for the first time EVER, I’ve managed to get some pre-planning/layout prep done so I am ready to move on from pink and red. I enjoyed working on my February layouts (my favourite habit tracker included), but I’m ready for it to be done. March is fast approaching and I’m still deciding on themes to use. I have a strange urge to use Alice in Wonderland as the theme. Only problem is I’ll have to draw all of the elements which is SUPER intimidating to me, but we’ll see. I still have some time to decide.

If you have any suggestions for March themes, or would like to see me fudge my way through and Alice theme, let me know in the comments below!
