Bullet Journal Year in Review 2022

We made it to my Bullet Journal Year in Review 2022. Last year felt like a long one. Toward the end of the year, I lost motivation to use my journal and my setups were done last minute. This was partly because my family and I kept getting sick. We had 2 colds and ended up getting flu, plus my oldest kiddo broke his arm – twice in 3 months. It was emotionally and mentally exhausting. As always, I’m starting 2023 off with the best intentions to use my journal more consistently. You can check out my 2023 Bullet Journal Setup, and January Bullet Journal Setup 2023 to see what I have planned. But this post is to look back and fill out a layout I have been most excited for! You can follow along in my Bullet Journal Year in Review 2022 video, but below, I am sharing my sources for colour inspiration, as well as the cover pages and colour palettes. So, let’s get into it!

Bullet Journal Year in Review 2022

Colour Palette inspiration

There are quite a few places to get colour inspiration.

  • Pinterest
    • This is the easiest source as people share colour palettes all the time.
    • I like to choose a colour palette and then adjust the colours to suit me, whether that’s brightening the colours, adjusting the warmth or cooling the colours, etc.
    • Check out my Pinterest board to help get you started

  • Coolors
    • This is a colour generator app that, well, automatically generates colour palettes
    • You can decide how many colours to include and adjust the colour relationships. Plus, the free version is pretty fantastic.

  • Canva
    • Canva has some great colour theory and colour palette tools to help inspire you
    • They have their own colour palette generator, as well as colour palette ideas, a colour wheel, and even the meaning behind different colours.
    • This is all part of their free offering.

Bullet Journal Year in Review 2022

Since you’re here, I thought I would make this year in review post more fun by ranking the lettering page, the theme page (the illustrated page), and colour palettes 1-10, 1 being I hate it and 10 being the best thing I think I’ve ever made!

January Bullet Journal Setup

The inspiration for this layout comes from it being my birthday month. I would rank these as follows

  • Lettering: 9
  • Theme Page: 4
  • Colour Palette: 10

February Bullet Journal Setup

This design came before the layout. Normally, I use my journal as inspiration for illustrations. But I was playing with vector software and designed this butterfly theme. I thought it would be fun to use in my bullet journal. I would rank these as follows

  • Lettering: 9
  • Theme Page: 9
  • Colour Palette: 9

March Bullet Journal Setup

The inspiration for this layout came from watching a ton of Fashion TikTok and watching all these influencers with their designer bags. I combined the bags with florals and a bullet journal theme was born. I would rank these as follows

  • Lettering: 6
  • Theme Page: 3
  • Colour Palette: 7

April Bullet Journal Setup

April kicks of spring and the concept of “rebirth” so my mind went to chickens and eggs. I would rank these as follows

  • Lettering: 8
  • Theme Page: 8
  • Colour Palette: 10

May Bullet Journal Setup

Simple and common theme – polaroids and cameras. Heading into summer, this was a great kick off to warmer weather and being outside more. I would rank these as follows

  • Lettering: 8
  • Theme Page: 9
  • Colour Palette: 6

June Bullet Journal Setup

FINALLY did a cactus theme. This was my first time ever doing one. It is so common and popular because they are so easy and fun to draw. I would rank these as follows

  • Lettering: 9
  • Theme Page: 8
  • Colour Palette: 8

July Bullet Journal Setup

We were lucky enough to head to Hawaii this past July. So I set up my bullet journal for a fun tropical cocktail getaway too!. I would rank these as follows

  • Lettering: 10
  • Theme Page: 9
  • Colour Palette: 10

August Bullet Journal Setup

Just over halfway through the bullet journal year in review. The inspiration for this layout actually stems from a doodle challenge I completed in 2020, using watercolour pencils. While in Hawaii, I sketched some fruit image, added some gun colours, and a pattern collection was born. I’m VERY biased for ranking this one (not that I wasn’t with the other 😆) and this one is hard for me too scrutinize too much but I would rank these as follows:

  • Lettering: 8
  • Theme Page: 10
  • Colour Palette: 10

September Bullet Journal Setup

This is another tough one for me. As the year went on and my mood shifted, giving in to the anxiety more, I definitely had more impactful designs. It’s part of a theory I have but best left for another post. So for my September bullet journal review, I would rank these:

  • Lettering: 9
  • Theme Page: 10
  • Colour Palette: 8

October Bullet Journal Setup

I was so frustrated by my October setup. My cutting machine was acting up, and of course, I was rushing to get it done. So, I would rank these:

  • Lettering: 4
  • Theme Page: 6
  • Colour Palette: 6

November Bullet Journal Setup

Fun fact about me: November is not my favourite month todo a bullet journal setup. It’s after October, which is normally a blast with Halloween themes, and obviously, before Christmas and the Holidays which can be just as fun. My past themes include hedgehogs, Hygge, and coffee, with coffee being my favourite. We had flu this past November so I really didn’t get much use out of my journal. But I still need to rank it, so:

  • Lettering: 5 (mid-range since I used stamps)
  • Theme Page: 8
  • Colour Palette: 7

December Bullet Journal Setup

The final piece of my Bullet Journal Year in Review. I feel like florals have become a fallback for me. When I’m stuck, I default to a basic theme, which, for me, is florals. For December, I did winter florals and threw in some tags. The tags to represent gifts. These rank as follows:

  • Lettering: 3
  • Theme Page: 8
  • Colour Palette: 8
